The website is really starting to get busy thanks to alot of very positive press we recieved before Christmas. We have been featured in the Observer, Independent and alot of local news papers (such as the fantastic article in the Chichester Observer).

As every parent knows disposable nappies are considered sinful ! Maybe that’s an overstatement but since before the birth of your child you will have received packs of information about cotton nappies and probably there will be an offer from the local council who subsidise a cotton scheme.

There are a lot of articles on the web about this debate and I thought I would give my perspective on it as a father. First of all lets look at the environmental impact of cotton and disposable nappies.

This might be a bit extreme for most people, but it was very entertaining (you can tell its silly season for the media) !  Apparently there is a growing number of people who follow a strict “freegan” diet.  This basically involved raiding the bins at the back of the local super market and taking home the perfectly good food that gets thrown out, i.e. eating for free.

Sustainability is a word that you will hear more of over the coming years.  In a nutshell it means how can we keep living without destroying the planet.  Current consumption in the western world is having an impact on the planet that we are only just beginning to understand.  The weather is getting warmer, which some people think is great for us in Blightly, but combined with sea level rises, extreme weather, food shortages and mass migration the future is looking pretty bleak.

Hello - this is my first blog entry and what a day it has been. We are trying to grow efreeko and thanks to our lovely press officer, Sue, things are starting to get hectic. Today I had an early morning interview with Bright FM, then a telephone interview with a journalist from Angels and Urchins magazine, which is a London publication about mothers and children.

Last week I was interviewed at 7am on BBC Radio Cleveland which was alot of fun, even though I had only just got up.

Jo is having her picture taken on friday for another magazine article (I forget which one) and I have another radio interview in the pipeline for later this week.

So why are we doing all this media stuff ? Well because we want to grow efreeko. Which means that you get more people posting up items to give away, and you get more people taking those items off your hands. I’ll let you into a secret - I want the website to have recycled 3,000 items by December 16th 2007. This is when efreeko is one year old. I think that is quite an ambitious target, but we are at 762 already, with the extra media attention prehaps this is possible ?

We are also getting into car stickers as another way to spread the word, this is what they will look like :

Efreeko Car Stickers

Well thats it for now, we have alot more things up our efreeko sleeves, more will be revealed later…..
